ACOUSTIC PRIVACY
Cabin-to-cabin noise also called Acoustic Privacy is very important onboard luxury Yachts especially at anchor condition. At anchor condition we can achieve noise levels between 25 – 30 dB(A) with the generator set(s) running and HVAC operational.
Normal speech between two people is 60 – 65 dB(A) and listening to music or TV it goes up to 70 – 75 dB(A) or more. This means that the partition wall between two (2) adjacent cabins must be able to create comfort and privacy.
Coupled walls, framing with SLP-PANEL on both sides and stone wool in between the framing, are used to achieve a Rw value between 40 – 45 dB. Decoupled walls are used to achieve Rw values up to 65 dB or more pending on the composition of the wall. Decoupled walls require 140 mm of space (luxury finishing not included) which means it must be considered in an early Design stage of the project.
