NEW PROJECT | SanLorenzo 96A project

Scope of work:

The Owner of this SanLorenzo Yacht 96A contacted Silent Line as he is unhappy with the noise levels onboard his brand-new Yacht.

At 9 knots free sailing condition, 1030 engine rpm of each MTU 2000 12V, the noise levels reach 67 dB(A). At maximum speed the noise level is far above 75 dB(A) which is uncomfortable for nowadays luxury yachts.

Silent Line will perform all required noise and vibration measurements to allocate the problems (most important sound sources and sound path) and make this Yacht much quieter.

The client requires 55 dB(A) in the Salon directly above the engine room. This is slightly above the DNV comfort class level 1 as shown in the table below.

Silent Line already did the prediction, prior to the measurements, using our inhouse developed software as shown on the upcoming pages. We are at 66 dB(A) predicted while measured by the captain 67 dB(A).

NOISE TARGETS TO BE ACHIEVED:

COMFORT CLASS LEVELS | DNV | GL

The noise targets are not set yet however we are aiming to achieve the above shown comfort class 1 noise targets as this Yacht is for charter and the nowadays guest require comfort and silence.

Predicted Noise Levels by Computer Simulation:

Silent Line developed over the many years and inhouse computer simulation model(s) to predict noise levels in each cabin or room during free sailing conditions and anchor condition. Main data which is used in our computer models are:

  • Structural data,
  • Data on main sound sources,
  • Distance between main sound sources and the center of the cabin | room,
  • Data abstracted from our preliminary insulation plan,
  • Data from each cabin or room for room acoustic calculations,
  • More
